Turbocharger Actuator Tester VNTT-PRO V4.05 (USB)
What is the purpose of the VNTT-PRO?
VNTT-PRO tester is designed to perform diagnosis of actuators (electric valves, DC motors) of VNT (Variable Nozzle Turbine) turbochargers. These actuators change position of turbocharger vanes in the same way as in turbochargers where turbine geometry was changed using vacuum.

Apart from
testing electronic turbocharger units VNTT-PRO tester can be used to check
variable geometry position sensors. These are found in turbines that use vacuum
or pressure controlled pneumatic valve to change geometry position. They enable
readout of variable geometry vanes opening percentage.
The tester is also able to diagnose boost pressure valve operation.
VNTT-PRO tester may be helpful in adjusting the operating range of variable geometry.
What kind of position sensors can be checked with VNTT-PRO?
VNTT-PRO device allows you to check potentiometric sensors and inductive sensors (Hall) manufactured by:
1. Honeywell
Used among others in
Audi A3, Golf VI, VW Passat, VW Polo with 1.6TDI 105KM, Octavia II 2.0TDI

The appearance of the HELLA turbo actuator:
Most of HELLA actuators found in the market are so-called actuators 'with electronics' because they have separate DC motor controller for lever adjustment integrated in the unit. They are used in cars including Mercedes, Ford 1.8 TDCI, 2.0 TDCI, BMW 2.0, Jeep Cherokee 3.0 CRD, VW Touareg 5.0 TDI V10, Nissan Navarra 2.5.
The following image shows their appearance.

There is a second type of HELLA actuators, called 'without electronics' because they have no integrated DC motor driver, as this is performed by the ECU. They are used among others in: Audi/VW 2.7 TDI and 3.0 TDI, Ford 2.4, BMW X3 2.0.

2. SIEMENS actuators
The tester supports all turbocharger actuators manufactured by SIEMENS. These are used among others in Audi/VW 2.7 TDI and 3.0 TDI, Mercedes, BMW.
The image below shows the appearance of a typical SIEMENS actuator.
3. MITSUBISHI actuators
This tester supports all MITSUBISHI actuators. These are used among others in BMW 320d, Ford 2.2 TDCI and in PSA Group cars with 2.HDI.

4. SONCEBOZ actuators
The device supports turbo actuators manufactured by SONCEBOZ. These can be found among others in LandRover and Mercedes.
The image below shows appearance of typical SONCEBOZ actuator.
5. DENSO actuators
This device supports turbo actuators manufactured by DENSO. These actuators can be found among others in Toyota 1.4 D-4D and 3.0 D-4D.

6. MAHLE actuators
The tester supports MAHLE turbo actuators. These can be found among others in VW, Skoda with 1.2 TSI engine.
The appearance of typical MAHLE turbo actuator is shown below.
7. HITACHI actuators
The tester supports HITACHI turbo actuators. These can be found among others Opel Vectra C/Signum 3.0 V6 CDTI 184KM and Renault Velsatis 3.0 V6 dCI 184KM.
From what time and in which brands are turbocharger actuators used?
Turbochargers with actuators were introduced in 2003 and since then they are widely used in car makes such as Audi, VW, Mercedes, BMW, Ford, Jaguar, Jeep, Chrysler and others
What can I check with VNTT-PRO device?
VNTT-PRO device allows you to check:
- uniformity of actuator lever movement,
- lever tractive resistance,
- range of actuator lever movement,
- mechanical parts as well as actuator electronics,
- DC motor used in turbo actuators to change lever position,
- correctness of variable geometry range adjustment,
- correctness of variable geometry position sensor operation,
- correctness of internal temperature sensor operation (only certain Hella units),
- vacuum solenoid valve controlling turbo actuator.
In case of Hella and Siemens turbo actuators, the tester can also identify the
actuator, determining from which car manufacturer comes the tested unit. As
turbocharger manufacturers state, the actuator is an integral part of turbine
and therefore it cannot be repaired or replaced without replacing the entire
turbine unit. With VNTT-PRO tester it is possible to determine, sometimes
simple cause of turbocharger failure and then the user may try to repair it.
Who should use VNTT-PRO tester?
VNTT-PRO tester can be successfully used in businesses involved in regeneration of turbochargers as well as in car garages offering wide range of repairs in order to diagnose the cause of turbocharger malfunction.
Are original actuator connectors included?
The device includes original connectors for: HELLA, SIEMENS, MITSUBISHI (for BMW), SONCEBOZ, DENSO, MAHLE and HITACHI turbo actuators.
For MITSUBISHI (for Ford/FSA) actuators there is a cable included with universal terminals.
All connection cables for variable geometry position sensor are ended with original connectors.
What kind of power supply is required?
VNTT-PRO tester can be powered from a DC supply with
12.. 15V output. The power supply should have current capability of minimum 4A.
The device is supplied with a dedicated DC power supply.
Is online upgrade possible?
